From Sinner To Saint

In this message, Pastor DaVon shares the story of Zacchaeus found in Luke 19. Zacchaeus was a rich tax collector who wanted to see Jesus, but people made fun of him because he was short. Still, he climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus, showing his faith. Jesus noticed him and even went to his house for a visit. Zacchaeus was so touched by Jesus' kindness that he changed his ways and started giving to others. It's a reminder that even when we think we're looking for Jesus, He's actually looking for us, just like He did with Zacchaeus.

Notes

Luke 19:1-10

  • A tax collector was motivated to make the taxes as high as possible.

  • Chief tax collector title is not found anywhere else in the Bible

  • If you were a tax collector and rich, you were a thief.

Luke 3:12-13

Then tax collectors also came to be baptized, and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”

  • This is what John the Baptist told the tax collectors who came to be baptized

Luke 19:1-10

  • The name Zacchaeus means “pure one.” This man was anything but pure — until he received Jesus.

  • Because he was small in size, we can imagine how Zacchaeus was mocked

  • This wealthy grown man climbs a tree. This could have been beneath him but he wanted to see Jesus.

  • He exhibited childlike faith.

  • Jesus called Zacchaeus by name. Jesus knew the importance of a person’s name.

  • Saying his name made all the difference; Jesus told Zacchaeus, “I know you”

  • Jesus also calls His sheep by name

  • Today I must stay at your house: Jesus didn’t just want to convert Zacchaeus, Jesus wanted to have a real relationship with Zacchaeus

  • Jesus invited Himself to spend time with Zacchaeus. And this is what he is doing today.

  • After spending a little time with Jesus, Zacchaeus knew he had to repent

  • Before he could get right with Jesus, he had to get right with people.

  • It is easier to confess to God than it is to other people.

  • At that moment, his heart changed.

  • Zacchaeus became a joyful giver

  • Love for Jesus can motivate you to do greater things

  • Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost.

  • Even though Zacchaeus sought Jesus, it turns out that he was the one who was lost, and Jesus sought him.

Who, What, When, Where, Why, How:

  • Who Jesus wants to receive Him: those lost.

  • What Jesus wants with you who receive Him: relationship.

  • When Jesus wants you to receive Him: immediately

  • Where Jesus wants to go: to meet with you.

  • Why Jesus wants you to receive Him: To give you salvation

  • How Jesus wants you to receive Him: joyfully.

Luke 3:8 NLT

Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.

  • Repent - a change of mind or a change of direction.
