The Start of Prayer

In this message, Pastor DaVon talks about why it's crucial to get close to God and spend some extra time praying. It's not just chatting with God; there's this awesome thing called the power of silence in prayer, and we'll talk about being thankful and how worship can draw you nearer to God. Get ready to make your own prayer time a big deal!

Notes

James 4:8

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…

James 4:8 TPT

Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you…

  • How is your prayer life?

  • Do you mainly pray when you get in trouble?

  • Do you only pray when you are with other believers?

  • Do you pray when you are alone?

1. Silence

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

  • Once you stop long enough to rest in His Presence, you’re finally in a position where you can receive from Him

  • Spending time with the Lord is not an option – it is the answer!

  • You must schedule time to be alone with God.

  • I don’t have time. What are you doing from 2-4 am?

Acts 3:19

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord

  • Spend moments rejuvenating in the Lord’s presence.

  • Find a quiet place, calm your spirit, move at a gentle pace, linger for a while, and depart only after receiving a sense of refreshment.

Mark 11:25

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

  • In stillness and silence, God will communicate with you about yourself

2. Thanksgiving

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  • Appreciate what He has already done for you.

3. Adoration

  • Sing, Praise, Worship, Dance, Tongues

4. Request

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God

Matthew 15:21-28

  • The approach was wrong

5. Thanksgiving

  • Praise Him in advance for answering your prayer

Mark 11:24

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
