What’s In Your Closet

Luke 12:22 – And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

In this particular verse, we see Jesus speaking to His disciples. He radically tells them not to think about even the most basic things in their lives. What an out-of-this-world statement! If I don’t think about my life, who will? Who will be concerned about me? What will others think about me?

Jesus essentially says, “Don’t worry about food, your body, or what you wear.” Some translations say, “Don’t worry about your clothes.” But is Jesus just talking about clothes? Clothes represent our appearance, how we look, and how we feel about ourselves. We do not like to be embarrassed, humiliated, nor made to look bad. Ironically, we choose a certain type of clothing style because we think our clothes are a true representation of us.

Unfortunately, we are on pins and needles about what others think about us. We tend to try to make things look good on the outside so that others can see us as having it all together. So in essence, we worry about what others think.

Jesus is fundamentally telling us to take no thought about what others think!  Any mental energy exercised toward what others think is considered taking thought.  Stop worrying! Trust God!  Remember, man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).

God has exciting plans for our lives. His plan for us includes prosperity, hope, and an amazing future (Jeremiah 29:11). God will always provide for His people. His provision is central to His plan.

Take inventory.  What are you “taking thought of” today?
