Notes

2 Timothy 3:1 NLT

You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.

  • Difficult times - hard to deal with, hard to bear, great stress and trouble

2 Timothy‬ 1:7‬

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

  • Everything you have has not been given to you by God.

  • Emotional fear vs spirit of fear

  • Emotional fear - natural, God-given response to danger. Part of our human design for survival and protection.

  • The spirit of fear - a demonic force that seeks to paralyze and oppress you. Seeks to put you in bondage.

  • Power - Boldness

  • Love - Patience and Kindness

  • Sound Mind - Clarity of thought

  • Nothing is more opposed to a sound mind than a spirit of fear.

Romans 8:15

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

  • Every day, you need to examine yourself to see if you are infected with a spirit of fear.

  • Fear produces paralysis

  • You were not born to live in fear.

  • You were not born to wake up every morning afraid

What is fear?

A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger whether real or imagined

  • Fear doesn’t discriminate

  • Fear cannot exist without self-concern

  • Our 3 greatest fears are our: Health, Family, Finances

  • Fear is faith in the opposite direction.

  • Fear tolerated is faith-contaminated

Job 3:25

For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.

  • Fear acts like a magnet, pulling in the very outcomes you dread the most.

  • You are not at the mercy of the spirit of fear

Hebrews 2:14-15 NLT

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

  • Fear has a stronghold: Uncertainty

  • I think the fear of death creates uncertainty

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

  • Fear cannot be ignored or wished away

  • Fear must be cast out

  • Torment is harassment

  • Torment is the result of allowing fear to dominate your thinking

  • Meditating on the love of God will flush fear out of your life
