Notes
John 15:1-10
Complete dependence and constant connection.
Abide - to stay, to remain, to continue
The branch depends on the vine even more than the sheep depends on the shepherd or the child depends on their father.
The purpose of the branch is to bear fruit.
Fruitfulness is the goal of your life
God told Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to "Be Fruitful"
Fruitfulness requires abiding
Abiding is something that you must choose.
You must decide to do practical things that will keep you in constant contact with Him.
Abiding is one of the most spiritual things you can do
Many exit ramps on this road of life.
Because of abiding, there are continual flows of possibilities.
Fruit bearing is inevitable with abiding. The quality and quantity of the fruit may differ, but the presence of fruit will be inevitable.
Pruning involves:
The deliberate act of transformation
Requiring self-reflection
Letting go of behaviors that hinder personal growth or causes harm.
Identifying and removing negative influences, habits, or attitudes.
Letting go of comfort zones, or confronting difficult truths.
Opening yourself up to new opportunities
Removing negativity and encouraging growth
Powerless
John 15:5 - “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
An electric vacuum is worthless unless it stays plugged in
Purpose
Distractions will deviate your attention and energy from your purpose.
John 15:7 Wuest
If you maintain a living communion with me and my words are at home in you, I command you to ask, at once, something for yourself, whatever your heart desires, and it will become yours.
