The Force Behind The Win

In this message, Pastor DaVon breaks down 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, where Paul tells us to rejoice, pray, and give thanks. Stress, family issues, or feeling overwhelmed can be tough, but this message is about finding strength. When we stay thankful, even when things aren’t going our way, it can change how we see our situation and open the door for God to work. Thanksgiving creates victory!

Notes

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  • Find reasons to celebrate

  • Never stop talking to God

  • In everything, not for everything give thanks

Thanks

  • Give, show, express, or demonstrate appreciation

  • Silent thanksgiving is no thanksgiving.

  • There is no such thing as thanksgiving unexpressed.

  • Is there a space between being thankful and being unthankful? No, you are always one or the other.

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-5 “In the last days, people will be unthankful.”

  • You have the power to choose whether or not to be thankful

  • Focusing on the finished works of Jesus causes you to be thankful

  • Thankfulness takes your eyes off of what's wrong

  • Thankfulness says thank you regardless of your circumstances

  • You cannot be depressed and thankful simultaneously

  • If a "Thank you" is on your lips then you can be sure that appreciation is working in your heart!

  • How is your unthankfulness affecting other people?

Is there a correlation between giving thanks and victory?

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:14

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

  • Giving thanks to God causes you to triumph

  • Giving thanks to God gives you victory

  • Giving thanks demonstrates faith in God’s ability to bring victory, even before the battle is won

  • Giving thanks to God invites His Presence (Psalm 22:3)

  • Giving thanks to God precedes miracles (Mark 8:1-9)

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God

  • Giving thanks to God reduces anxiety and builds confidence.

  • Giving thanks to God shifts your focus from problems to the One who holds the solution.

  • When you focus on what you have to be thankful for, you will persist through difficulties and achieve victory.
