Notes

John 10:10

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

  • The devil comes to steal, kill and to destroy but Jesus comes to give us life as we have never known it

  • Satan is trying to steal from you what Jesus has already given you

  • May Have Life - to have and to continually possess

  • Life/Zoe - life that is filled with vitality

  • Unlike a thief, the Lord Jesus does not come for selfish reasons.

  • He came to give, not to get.

  • He came that people may have life in Him that is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and eternal.

  • We receive this abundant life the moment we accept Him as our Savior.

  • Abundantly - above, beyond what's regular, extraordinary, excessive, bountiful, plentiful, overflowing, cup runs over.

If you’re not experiencing this type of life, somewhere and somehow the thief is taking from you.

2 Corinthians 8:9

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

  • Rich - Greek word Plousios - wealthy, abounding in material resources, abundantly supplied.

  • Poor - Greek word ptocheuo - to be poor, to beg

1 Timothy 6:17-19 NLT

Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

In Paul’s day, there was no middle class. Only the rich and the poor. The Rich are those who have consistent shelter, food, and clothes

Verse 17:

  • Command the rich in this world to not be full of pride

  • You are not better than someone because you have money

  • You will not be happier because you have money

  • How does that affect your emotional relationship with money?

  • If I got more money, my life would improve. Would it?

  • Will you internally be satisfied? Or will you be greedy?

  • Have you ever talked to someone who has gotten more money?

  • Did their soul seem more at rest?

  • More money, more problems

Command the rich to think like this:

  • Use your money to do good

  • Rich in good works – Planning and looking for ways to give

  • Ready to give – be prepared to give your money away

  • Willing to share – willing to divide and distribute

These 4 things will cause you to experience true life!

Money alone cannot cause you to experience true life but the process of giving money away can.

Proverbs 11:24-25

Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

  • The advice of the richest man to ever live!

  • Living the lifestyle of a giver requires that you make the necessary lifestyle adjustments that will allow you to have something to give

  • The very act of giving money away does something within you. It destroys greed.
