Notes

John 10:10

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

  • The devil's goal is to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give you a life you've never experienced before.

  • Satan is trying to steal from you what Jesus has already given you

  • May Have Life - to have and to continually possess

  • Life/Zoe - life that is filled with vitality

  • Unlike a thief, the Lord Jesus does not come for selfish reasons.

  • He came to give, not to get.

  • He came that people may have life in Him that is meaningful, purposeful, joyful, and eternal.

  • We receive this abundant life the moment we accept Him as our Savior.

  • Abundantly - above, beyond what's regular, extraordinary, excessive, bountiful, plentiful, overflowing, surplus, cup runs over.

  • If you’re not experiencing this type of life, somehow the thief is stealing from you.

I Peter‬ 5:8‬

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

  • Be sober, be vigilant - Be aware, be watchful

  • Seek - to go in search of

  • If you do not bring your worries and cares to God, the devil will use depression and discouragment to devour you.

Devil:

  • Devil is more of a title or a function than it is a name

  • Devil means to strike and strike and strike (repeatedly strikes) until it penetrates (the mind)

  • The devil's goal is to diminish your impact.

  • The devil’s ultimate agenda is to destroy you

  • His only weapon is suggestion.

  • He offers ideas in order to alter your behavior

Lion:

  • Prey is so plentiful

  • When lions hunt, they look for weak, young, isolated and unguarded animals.

  • Lions stalk their prey (pursue, hunt, ambush, creep up on)

  • By stalking their prey they are able to get as close as possible

  • Lions sleep in the day and hunt at night.

  • Most hunting done by lions is under the cover of darkness; without the threat of detection.

  • A lions most successful hunts are on dark nights against a single prey

  • Lions occasionally detect their prey through hearing.

  • Lions injure themselves when they try to control bigger/stronger animals.

I Peter‬ 5:9‬

Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

  • The devil is more committed to attack than most of us are to withstand him

  • Be ready to fight

  1. Guard Your Mind (Monitor what goes in and comes out)

  2. Stop listening to his lies

  3. Stop believing his lies

  4. Use the Word of God as the sword against his mental attacks

James 4:7

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
