Notes

Revelation 2:3-4

and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

  • You didn’t lose your first love, you left your first love

  • You have become too focused on religious duties and lost sight of the love for God.

  • You don’t know you’re asleep until you wake up.

  • You don’t know you’re distracted until someone tells you.

  • What causes you to leave?

Luke 10:38-42

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

  • Martha’s house

  • She was also sitting at the feet of Jesus with Mary.

  • Distraction, worry, and trouble pulled Martha away.

  • You could be in the very same room with Jesus and not hear one word from Him.

  • Distraction can cause you to leave Jesus

  • If you don't separate yourself from distractions, your distractions will separate you.

  • Distractions can lead to worry and trouble, as they can prevent you from focusing on what’s important.

  • The best way to increase your focus is to decrease your distractions.

  • Stay mindful of God’s presence during a season of busyness.

  • There are times that it is essential to focus on the teaching of the Word

Nehemiah 6:1-3

Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates), that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they thought to do me harm. So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”

  • Don’t come off the wall.

  • Make the most of your time

  • Get the full value out of your time

  • What discipline do you need to start?

  • What do you need to add to your schedule?

  • What do you need to subtract from your schedule?

  • What do you need to stop doing?

Three activities ensure your time is never wasted:

  • Spiritual - Bible reading, prayer, mediation, church attendance, serving

  • Physical - Exercise, diet, at times sleep

  • Relational - Spouse, Children, Family, Vacations
