Notes

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  • Faith is the confidence that what I hope for will come to pass.

  • Faith is acting on what you believe

  • Faith has its anchor in the unseen realm

  • Our job is to believe that God will do His job

What happens when you get tired of waiting?

  • One of the least favorite words for your flesh is “wait”

  • What’s taking so long?

  • Why are things not working out for me?

  • I should be further along than I am.

  • I feel like God is taking me on the longest route.

James 1:1-5

  • James, half-brother of Jesus

  • Unbeliever during Jesus’ ministry

  • Became a believer after the resurrection

  • Leader of the church in Jerusalem

  • The first thing he says is to count it all joy

  • Most believers feel full of joy until they encounter a test

  • The first function of joy is to give you strength

  • Joy is evidence of your faith.

  • If you don’t rejoice, the devil thinks he’s winning

  • Happiness is based on circumstances

  • Joy is unaffected by its circumstances

  • Joy gives you adrenaline

  • Joy - to be glad; cheerful; good spirits

  • If you're a believer, you have the unstoppable force of the spirit of joy on the inside of you

  • The strength to endure is not present without joy

  • The function of joy is to produce victory

  • Patience comes through the testing of your faith

  • Time tests your faith

  • Chronological time is an enemy of faith

  • Test - any pressure that draws us away from God's Word

  • "Did God really say"

  • Patience- consistent and constant; Being the same way at all times

  • Patience is continuing to believe

  • Trials or Temptations - The act or process of testing, trying, or putting to the proof

  • Trials do not come to produce faith, trials come to test faith

  • Patience or Endurance - the ability or strength to continue or last, despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions; stamina

  • You don't get patience by praying for it

  • Patience is the key to receiving everything that you believe for

  • Patience is not a quality that helps you sit quietly in the doctor’s waiting room, but the quality that helps you finish a marathon.

  • "How am I honestly conducting myself in the midst of this trial?"

  • What are you excited about?

  • What are you looking forward to?

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

  • It does not say, “Blessed is the man who is never tempted.”

  • You are blessed when you endure tests

  • When you have been proven, then you will receive.

  • The reason why you haven’t received yet is because you are not ready yet. You need more testing.
