Why You Lack Faith

In this message, Pastor DaVon explores Mark 6 where Jesus preaches in his hometown. Why were the people offended by Jesus? Why couldn’t He do any mighty miracles there? How does this encounter with Jesus affect you today? The answers to these questions and more are found in this message.

Notes

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

  • When we start walking by sight, we stop walking by faith

  • The opposite of faith is sight

2 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

  • Examine - audit, inspect, review

Hebrews 3:12 TPT

So search your hearts every day, my brothers and sisters, and make sure that none of you has evil or unbelief hiding within you. For it will lead you astray, and make you unresponsive to the living God.

  • Unbelief says I will not believe.

  • Unbelief is anchored in what is visible or reasonable

  • Unbelief honors the natural realm as superior to the invisible realm.

  • Unbelief is faith in the natural realm

  • The natural realm is the anchor of unbelief

  • Unbelief believes more in what’s visible than in what is invisible

  • Unbelief is faith in something other than God

  • Unbelief takes no risk and always gets what it expects.

  • The problem is not the absence of faith; it’s the presence of unbelief.

Mark 6:1-6

  • We have no record of Jesus ever returning to Nazareth

  • One of the biggest barriers to receiving God’s power is familiarity.

  • Familiarity is having a closeness with a person to the point that you no longer have awe, respect, or honor for them.

  • Sometimes it is best for the pastor and for you to have a distant relationship. You can become so accustomed to your pastor that you stop seeing the anointing that is on his life.

  • “I think people in churches tend to slide into this without trying to or realizing it. They get comfortable and familiar and simply forget to esteem and value what’s being said and who’s saying it.”

  • You stop having a spiritual connection with men of God once you become familiar with them.

  • Yet it is possible to remain close and value the anointing.

  • Familiarity says, “I know that already or I’ve heard that before or I know him”
